Own the Room: Public Speaking for Choir Leaders

Overview:

Concert announcements are more than just transitions between musical pieces – they are moments of connection between the performers and the audience. This workshop is designed for anyone who speaks during choir concerts and wants to bring more presence, clarity, and emotional resonance to their introductions and commentaries.

We’ll explore the central question: How can I speak in a way that feels natural and engaging, supports the atmosphere of the concert, and genuinely connects with the audience – without sounding scripted or theatrical?

Workshop topics include:

  • Physical presence on stage
  • What spoken moments in concerts are actually for: purpose, potential, and limits of announcements and moderations
  • Structuring announcements: thinking dramaturgically – speaking emotionally
  • Authenticity and building rapport with the audience
  • Handling nerves and stage anxiety

Who it’s for:

Anyone who delivers spoken introductions, announcements, or moderations in concerts.

Requirements: Willingness to participate actively in a supportive setting. Participants are encouraged to bring examples from their own choir programs or concerts.
