Night Concert: And I Heard a Voice…
Vox Clamantis
Artistic Director and Conductor: Jaan-Eik Tulve
Program: Works by Arvo Pärt and Gregorian chants
This concert offers a meditative musical journey, connecting the timeless beauty of Gregorian chant with the works of iconic Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. Together they form a thrilling dialogue between ancient and contemporary sacred music.
The program flows like a liturgical cycle, alternating chants with Pärt’s compositions. The concert concludes with the appropriate title song And I Heard a Voice… This night concert is like a musical pilgrimage, inviting listeners into inner silence and deep, attentive listening.
Formed in 1996, ensemble VOX CLAMANTIS comprises a diversity of musicians – singers, composers, instrumentalists, and conductors – who have a common interest in Gregorian chant. Alongside Gregorian chant, considered to be the foundation of all European music, Vox Clamantis often performs early polyphony and contemporary music. Many Estonian composers, among them Arvo Pärt, Helena Tulve, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Tõnis Kaumann, and Sven Grünberg, have written compositions for Vox Clamantis.
