You may have heard the term ‘Tintinnabuli’, but do you really know what it means? Arvo Pärt’s unique method of composition is often misunderstood. While his music may sound serene and simple, the system behind it is anything but. Rooted in a precise treatment of both music and text, it is far from minimalism and in some ways surprisingly close to serialism. This lecture is an introduction to Pärt’s choral writing for the brave and curious.
